Jon Jones’ next octagon assignment looks close to being revealed.
The 205-pound champion last fought in July where he was given the nod by split decision in a hard-fought contest with Brazil’s Thiago Santos, marking the first time in his professional career that he has been marked the loser of a bout on at least one of the three cageside judges’ scorecards.
Despite the closeness of that particular bout, Jones is still assumed to have no equal at 205-pounds. He has resisted the urge to move to heavyweight where a slew of box office-friendly matchups would await him to keep his focus trained on the division in which he made his name — and judging by recent comments he made on Twitter, we could be finding out the identity of the next man hoping to prize the title from his clutches very soon.

There are a few candidates. Daniel Cormier, who recently lost the UFC heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic, had recently iterated that if he were to face Jones again, he would only contemplate it taking place in the light heavyweight division. ‘DC’ has hinted at retirement also but has been noticeably silent on that topic since his defeat this summer.
Jan Blachowicz recently earned a stunning KO victory against 205-pound debutant Luke Rockhold to put his name in the mix, too. The Pole has won four of five and is currently in the best form of his career. Rockhold, had he won that fight, would also likely have been considered a candidate to square off with Jones.
For now though, we wait.
