The grass, it seems, isn’t always greener.
Tonight in Japan, former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez made his promotional debut for ONE Championship at ONE: A New Era. Alvarez competed against Timofey Nastyukhin in the first round of a lightweight tournament. It was, unfortunately for the man from Philly, a debut to forget.
With a minute to go in the first, Nastyukhin landed a number of heavy right hands that had Alvarez staggered back against the fence before the referee stepped in to call an end to proceedings.
“I feel very good,” Nastyukhin said following the contest (through a translator). “It’s my style, I love to finish fights in the first round by knockout, so I did it.”
