About a month ago, Anthony Pettis moving up to welterweight seemed like an odd decision to revitalize a slowing career. Tonight, it seems like a brilliant argument against weight cutting in MMA.
In the main event of UFC Nashville, Pettis met Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in a fight where he was clearly tagged as the underdog. And, while he seemed to struggle with Thompson’s range for around 9 minutes, Pettis landed a picture perfect superman punch to knockout Thompson cold in the second.
Immediately following the fight, Pettis said he was more than happy to stay at welterweight, pointing to a rematch with Rafael Dos Anjos as a fight he wanted in the near future.
