Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is set to face another rising English welterweight contender on foreign soil after it has emerged that the UFC are in the process of booking the veteran welterweight against Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards, a fighter in the midst of a five-fight win streak at 170-pounds.

News of the potential booking was first reported by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, who states the the contest has been agreed verbally by all parties though not yet made official by the UFC.

Cerrone rebounded from three successive defeats to beat Yancy Madeiros via first round strikes in February. Prior to that ‘Cowboy’ had suffered defeats to Jorge Masvidal, Robbie Lawler and, last October, Darren Till — and it is that last fight, in Poland last October, that the Edwards fight appears reminiscent of.

Like Till, Edwards — a former BAMMA champion — will come into this bout in the midst of career best form which has seen him earn victories against Vincente Luque, Albert Tumenov, Bryan Barbarena and, last month, Peter Sobotta.

Recently Edwards spoke to MMA Junkie and confirmed that he was chasing a bout with either Cerrone or Jorge Masvidal.

“Everyone in the top 10 is booked up right now, so for me to take a fight (now), it would be another random fight,” Edwards said. “So I’ll wait until July and see how the division plays out, and push for ‘Cowboy’ or Masvidal in July.

“I’m on a five-fight win streak now. I’ve beaten some good guys on the way up, so I think it’s time for me to take a step to a top-10 guy.”

UFC Singapore, or UFC Fight Night 132, takes place in a venue yet to be announced on June 23rd.
