Whether it’s against old rival Michael Bisping or new challenger Alexander Gustafsson, former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has a growing number of options for his new life at light heavyweight.
Rockhold has elected to make the move up a division after his significant weight cut has become increasingly difficult as he gets older. And while he’s eyeing a third fight with 185-pound rival Bisping, a light heavyweight bout with division staple Gustafsson seems to be just as likely.
Last month, Gustafsson called out Rockhold as a manner in which to attack light heavyweight champion (and Rockhold teammate), writing on social media: “Your teammate is holding MY Division hostage, and you think there are only easy fights at LHW. If u think Romero hits hard, then wait till you come to the big boys.”
When Rockhold was asked about the call out on MMAFighting’s The MMA Hour this week, he welcomed the prospect of a bout with the Swede, saying of the idea, “I like it” and “I don’t know if he was trying to get under DC’s skin, but I’ll be coming. I’ll be coming to 205. Im gonna handle my business and you better be sure I’m coming for that ass, too.”
@LukeRockhold . Heard u coming for me.. Can’t ask for more .chinny as middle weight. KO’d as a LHW. Fool yourself to believe its the weight cut.
I’ll wait for u!!
