We’ve heard of busting your balls in training but this is a bit much.
Joe Lauzon, the man of a thousand post-fight UFC bonuses, left quite the impression on fellow UFC fighter Devin Powell at a training session this week. After landing a knee on his sparring partner, Lauzon ruptured one of Powell’s testicles with, as Powell later put it, “sheer force”.
Powell is a UFC lightweight who was signed to the promtion via Dana White’s Lookin’ For A Fight web series and has since compiled a 0-2 record in the promotion after suffering losses to Drakkar Klose and Darrell Horcher in his first two bouts.
Neither of those losses, we suspect, would have been quite as painful as as the feeling of taking a full blown knee to his nether regions.
Writing on Instagram before going into surgery, Powell said: “Thanks to the fine ambulatory services in Wells, ME, I am checked into the hospital and ready for surgery. Shout out to Joe Lauzon we’ve been practicing knees on the ground and he successfully ruptured my testicle with his sheer power. His opponent has no chance in April … now to get the blood clot drained and the goods repaired . I waited a day and a half to be seen.. word for the wise, if you hurt yourself, go get checked out. Dana White, Sean Shelby, how about a NY UFC fight coming up… this will be quite the comeback story . Share this and help me get the ball rolling on my next Fight and follow my journey… pun intended.”
For his part, Lauzon chimed back on Twitter with a hearty “I can explain…”

Thankfully, Powell provided a post-surgery update on Instagram and appeared in remarkably good form for someone in his situation.
He wrote: “Surgery was a success, now on to recovery. Can’t wait to get back in the UFC cage, this will be the first time since my last fight that I will be forced to rest my whole body for multiple days in a row. I will come back stronger than ever, I wasn’t expecting this curve ball but I’m going to hit my recovery right out of the park.”
Hopefully Powell will be back in action before long. Lauzon, meanwhile, faced Chris Gruetzemacher on April 7th in New York, though he won’t be allowed to use any of new knee techniques in this bout.
