Uriah Hall has been released from hospital after being admitted for treatment following failing to make weight for his scheduled bout opposite Vitor Belfort at UFC St. Louis last weekend.
Hall failed to report to the weigh-ins after reportedly fainting backstage prior to stepping on the scales. It was also reported that the middleweight fighter suffered a seizure during the incident. Hall was on weight when the incident occurred.
The UFC released the following statement after learning of the situation:
“Sunday’s UFC Fight Night co-main event between Uriah Hall and Vitor Belfort has been called off after Hall was unable to make weight for the bout at Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
“The card, which airs on FS1, will proceed with 11 bouts. Moving to the main card is the featherweight bout between Darren Elkins and Michael Johnson, while the bantamweight clash between Kyung Ho Kang and Guido Cannetti moves to the FS1 prelims.“
Paige VanZant, who also competed on Sunday night’s card, stated on social media that witnessing Hall’s medical issue was “scary”, while Ariel Helwani noted last Sunday night that the fighter has been released from hospital.
The nature of the incident is the latest black mark on the culture of weight-cutting in mixed martial arts, which is now seen by many as being a black eye on the sport.
Hall has yet to comment on the incident on social media or otherwise.
