An injury suffered by UFC welterweight Donald Cerrone looks set to force the cancellation of his scheduled UFC 213 bout with Robbie Lawler, it has been reported today by MMAFighting.com.

However, the injury — the details of which are as of now undisclosed — doesn’t appear to be too severe as hope remains for the bout to be rescheduled for UFC 214 on July 29th.

The proposed UFC 213 date marked the second time that the UFC has attempted to pair Cerrone and Lawler, after a bout between the two at last November’s UFC 205 failed to come to fruition.

Cerrone is 4-1 since moving to the UFC’s 170-pound fold in February of last year after going 8-1 in his last nine bouts at lightweight. He moved up a weight class following a loss in a championship bout with then-titleholder Rafael Dos Anjos.

Lawler, meanwhile, hasn’t fought since losing the welterweight title to Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 almost a year ago.

If indeed the bout does get moved to UFC 214 it will provide even more ballast to the event headlined by the light heavyweight title bout between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones, as well as the women’s featherweight title match between Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos and Invicta champ Tonya Evinger.
