There’s little dispute in the mixed martial arts community that Polish destroyer Joanna Jedrzejczyk is the most dangerous female fighter in the game. The unbeaten Jedrzejczyk recently won her 14th straight bout (8th inside the UFC) earlier this month when she outgunned Jessica Andrade en route to a unanimous decision victory at UFC 211 but the Pole has now set her sights on a new goal — becoming the second UFC fighter to hold titles in two different weight classes.
The women’s 125-pound division (ten pounds north from the division in which she holds her belt) has been targeted by Jedrzejczyk as she looks to emulate Conor McGregor and lift two gold belts consecutively. Full information as to the specifics of the women’s 125-pound frame are yet to be fully announced, though Jedrzejczyk sees the new division as being an ideal hunting ground for her.
“We heard about the new flyweight division, so maybe next year I will face a 125-pounder, and maybe I will fight for the second belt,” Jedrzejczyk said to TMZ.
“I want to be like Conor McGregor. I like to challenge myself. And definitely Conor sets a good example of hard work and big challenges. I want to reach that as well. I want to be a champion in two different divisions.”
McGregor won a second UFC title when he defeated Eddie Alvarez via second round TKO at UFC 205 last year, a feat which had never been realised by any fighter until that moment and much like the Irishman, Jedrzejczyk sees a potential double-title assault as being within her grasp.
First though it’s likely that Jedrzejczyk will face Rose Namajunas, one of the few fighters to have not yet have been booked against the Pole, sometime later this year leaving the latter part of the year, or even into 2018, as the time to chase the historic double gold.
