If you thought that the UFC’s recent decision to end contract negotiations with promsing 205-pound contender Misha Cirkunov was a strange one, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Nikita Krylov, another of the light heavyweight division’s most promising fighters, has been released from his UFC contract it was revealed late on Friday by MMAJunkie. The 24-year-old Ukrainian fighter was 6-3 overall in the UFC but recently had a five-fight winning streak cancelled (by Cirkunov, incidentally) and was considered to be a fighter very much on the rise in the UFC’s light heavyweight division — a weight class that has been calling out for new talent lately.

Krylov began his UFC career as a heavyweight where he went 1-1. He dropped his light heavyweight debut to Ovince St. Preux but then went on the five-fight streak which was eventually snapped by Cirkunov.

Krylov’s departure, along with those of Cirkunov and Ryan Bader’s impending move to Bellator means that the UFC’s light heavyweight division is as threadbare as it has ever been.
