Joe Rogan has questioned the feasibility and logistics of a proposed UFC event at the White House after former US President Donald Trump claimed plans were in place to stage multiple championship fights on the grounds in June.
Trump outlined the proposal while speaking publicly earlier this month, describing discussions with UFC president Dana White about hosting a major outdoor card. “The great Dana White is building an arena, and they’re going to have eight or nine championship fights, the biggest fights they’ve ever had,” Trump said of plans to stage fights on the lawn of the White House on June 14. “Every one is a championship fight, and every one is a legendary type of fight. He’s actually holding back fights right now for six months so he can do it for 250,” he added, according to the Daily Mail.
Rogan addressed the idea during a recent podcast appearance, immediately questioning the structure of the proposed card. “First of all, there’s only eight weight classes so how’s there gonna be nine title fights?” Rogan said. “It would have to be every weight class fighting for the title, which would be nuts.”
He also raised concerns about the unique environment and security demands of hosting a fight at the White House. “What kind of f***ing security are they going to have for this?” Rogan asked during a recent episode of his podcast.
“During the same discussion, Rogan asked UFC fighter Brendan Allen if he would want to fight on the card, to which Allen replied “not really.” Rogan responded: “Not really? Doesn’t surprise me. A lot of weird pressure, security, protocols, all the extra sh*t in your mind before you go out and fight.”
Rogan further highlighted potential issues with holding fights outdoors. “Also, you’re fighting outside. What if it’s hot and muggy? That’s gonna affect people,” he said.
At present, no official confirmation has been issued by the UFC regarding a White House event, and no bouts have been announced. Dana White has not publicly commented on Trump’s specific claims about the number of title fights or the proposed June 14 date.
