For weeks, Leon Edwards has showed little reaction to Colby Covington’s array of trash-talk ahead of their UFC 296 main event fight this weekend.

However, things came to a head late on Thursday at the event’s pre-fight press conference when Covington — dressed in garb from the American revolutionary war — made a comment about Edwards’ late father, prompting the welterweight champion to throw a bottle at the title challenger.

The incident immediately prompted the interjection of UFC security staff who had been positioned nearby in the event of such an incident. Edwards was persuaded to return to his seat soon afterwards but the heat between the two remained until the staredown, where security officials kept the two separated.
