Josh Emmett has dynamite in his fists.
The 40-year-old veteran of the UFC featherweight division has scored seven knockouts in his 23-fight professional career — but none were quite as spectacular as the one that he delivered to the chin of Bryce Mitchell which earned him the award for 2023’s best knockout inside the UFC cage.
On Saturday night inside the UFC Apex on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Emmett faces a pivotal battle if he is to retain any realistic ambitions of competing near the summit of the 145-pound division when he battles the unbeaten Englishman Lerone Murphy; a fighter with seven straights wins inside the UFC cage and who is beginning to harbour very realistic title ambitions of his own.
But as noted, Murphy will have to avoid Emmett’s power shots if he is to emerge with his hand raised — something which Bryce Mitchell failed to do when they fought in December of 2023.
