Joaquin Buckley is a problem at 170-pounds.
The 30-year-old American, winner of five straight in the welterweight division, takes on the biggest fight of his career this weekend when he fights the returning Colby Covington in the main event of the UFC’s return to Tampa, Florida this weekend — an opportunity handed to him when original opponent Ian Machado Garry stepped in to replace champion Belal Muhammad against Shavkat Rakhmonov at last weekend’s UFC 310 event in Las Vegas.
Buckley will enter the cage in career-best form, having scored impressive wins over the likes of Alex Morono and Vicente Luque in recent outings — though it was his performance against Octagon veteran Stephen Thompson this past October that really made fight fans sit up and take notice after he became just the second fighter to defeat ‘Wonderboy’ by knockout finish when he landed a thunderous right hand against the Karate stylist in their fight in Salt Lake City.
