One could forgive Jamahal Hill for holding a claim over the UFC’s light heavyweight title.

The Chicago native, still just 32, was the undisputed 205-pound titleholder this time last year, but relinquished the championship in July after suffering a freak achilles injury while playing basketball. The title remained vacant up until November’s UFC 295 in Madison Square Garden when Alex Pereira defeated another former champion, Jiri Prochazka, to claim the belt.

In next month’s UFC 300, Hill gets a chance to set the record straight when the American faces off with Pereira in his bid to regain the belt he never lost in the cage. The fight comes with a little extra spice too, given that Hill defeated Glover Teixeira — one of Pereira’s primary coaches and training partners — to win the championship in January of last year.
