Diego Lopes faces the fight of his life later this month. 

At UFC 314, which will hit your screens from Miami, Florida on April 12, Lopes will take on featherweight great Alexander Volkanovski with the recently-vacated 145-pounds title up for grabs.

In a sense, Lopes’ very participation in his maiden UFC title bout represents him overcoming the odds. Entering the UFC in May 2023, Lopes was defeated by Mosvar Evloev in his debut fight for the organisation in what was his third loss in his a five fight spell at the time.

Since then, though, the 30-year-old Brazilian has been near faultless. He has won five straight in the UFC’s lightweight fold, with a clear cut decision win over Brian Ortega as part of the Noche UFC card inside the Las Vegas Sphere last September ultimately proving to be the final litmus test before his title bid in a couple of weeks time.
