Judges are rarely required for a Derrick Lewis fight.
Throughout his 41-fight professional career, ‘The Black Beast’ has gone to the scorecards just seven times — with an incredible 30 of those fights ending by either KO or TKO. And with 15 of those in the UFC, no fighter has a better record of finishing fights with their fists.
This weekend in the UFC’s event in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Lewis will seek add another KO win to his ledger when he fights Jhonata Diniz, an undefeated Brazilian heavyweight who carries a not insignificant threat of his own in the stand-up game, having won 7 or 8 bouts by knockout and a 22-7 record (15 KOs) in a high-level kickboxing career.
But as has been discovered on many occasions in the past, Lewis needs to connect flush just once in order to tilt the balance in his favour in the cage. Just ask Rodrigo Nascimento, Lewis most-recent knockout victim from their fight in St. Louis, Missouri back in May.
