In a little over two weeks’ time, Charles Oliveira gets an opportunity to return to title contention at 155-pounds.

The Brazilian submission specialist has won 12 of his past 13 fights in the UFC’s shark tank 155-pound division, with that sole defeat coming against champion Islam Makhachev 18 months ago. Oliveira returned to the win column this past June when he scored a first-round finish over the teak-tough Beneil Dariush, and will seek another statement win at next month’s UFC 300 against Arman Tsarukyan — the 21-3 fighter who has designs of his own on pursuing the UFC’s lightweight championship.

Oliveira recent run, though, has shown him to be one of the organisation’s most bankable finishers, having added a strong striking game to his already world class grappling skills — and this was a lesson learned quickly by Michael Chandler when the two met in May 2021 to contest the then-vacant world title.
