It has been an unusual year for Bryce Mitchell.

The featherweight fighter, who is generally regarded as being among the foremost submission grapplers at 145-pounds, created international headlines in January when he made comments in support of Adolf Hitler during a podcast appearance. The incident prompted widespread criticism, including from UFC boss Dana White who concluded that Mitchell was perhaps the least bright fighter on the roster.

And as such, one might have some extra questions as to Mitchell’s next bout after he was paired with the 145-pound finisher Jean Silva as part of the UFC 314 card in just over a week’s time. Silva has finished 12 of his 15 wins via knockout — with many forecasting a similar outcome later this month.

Mitchell, though, is no easy out at featherweight and was pitch perfect in his last performance — a TKO win of his own over Kron Gracie in December.
