Amir Albazi is on the rise at 125-pounds.

The 31-year-old Iraqi, currently ranked #3 in the UFC’s flyweight fold, has a chance to take a giant leap towards title contention at this weekend’s UFC event in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada when he fights the two-time former champion Brandon Moreno in what is — by far — the biggest fight of his career.

And a glance at the evidence shows that he has earned up. Unbeaten in five UFC outings to date (17-1 overall), Albazi has been a tough nut to crack so far in his UFC run, earning finishes in three of his five bouts and most recently an impressive split decision victory over the dangerous Kai Kara-France.

In Moreno, though, Albazi faces a fighter who has stood opposite practically every big name fighter in the division and has only rarely been on the defensive in those fights.

But if Albazi can unload the same type of power that saw him finish Alessandro Costa in late December 2022, then there will be a new dangerous challenger to Alexandre Pantoja’s world title.
