There is a lot on the line in the UFC 305 main event — not least of which are bragging rights.

Late on Saturday night (or Sunday morning, depending on where you are in the world) South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis will seek to complete the first defence of the UFC middleweight title he won from Sean Strickland earlier this year against the Nigerian-born Israel Adesanya.

The bout comes almost a year since Adesanya’s last fight (a defeat to the aforementioned Strickland) and ‘Stylebender’ has made clear in the lead-in to this weekend’s bout that he sees this as more than just a title fight.

And judging by their staredown following Friday’s pre-fight press conference, you can see what the moment means to both men.
