Dana White says that he is still confident that a heavyweight title showdown between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall happens sooner rather than later.
Speaking to the media, including The Mac Life, following Ian Machado Garry’s decision victory over Carlos Prates late on Saturday night, White said that moves have been made to make the fight official, and had a word of warning for people believing social media chatter.
“Everything you hear is bullsh*t until we say it,” White said. “I’ve said it many times that that’s the fight we want to make this year.
“[I’m] still super confident,” White added. “I’ve said since day one that this will be the biggest heavyweight fight in the history of the company and in the history of the sport. This will be a big one.”
Meanwhile, White also confirmed that a middlweight title showdown between Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev has been agreed but said that it won’t take place as part of the annual ‘International Fight Week’ event in Las Vegas at UFC 317 in late June. Interestingly, White also appeared to confirm speculation that the event could well be headlined by a lightweight title bout between Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria.
