UFC boss Dana White has made no bones about his thoughts on his heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Jones, absent from the cage since a March 2023 win against Ciyrl Gane to claim the then-vacant UFC heavyweight title, has been caught in the crossfire of an ongoing debate between some media members and White amid questions as to Jones’ status as the sport’s top pound-for-pound fighter.

White has on several occasions recently stated that Jones should be considered the sport’s biggest threat, and has stuck to his guns for the proposed title fight between Jones and Stipe Miocic which is speculated to go down in New York this coming November in spite of interim champion Tom Aspinall waiting in the wings.

Furthermore, White has also opposed some elements of the official UFC rankings (which are decided by a panel of media members) which currently has two fighters — Islam Makhachev and Alex Pereira — as the top two fighters in the world, with Jones in third place.

And as such, White says he looks forward to the day when the UFC can lean on technology to decide these issues.

“[Jones] recently just beat the No. 1 heavyweight in the world [Gane],” White told the media, including The Mac Life, Tuesday in Las Vegas.

“Hope you guys read that stat. You know what is f*cking great about technology? We’re not far away from AI actually doing these rankings, and it’ll be a great f*cking day when AI starts doing this sh*t. I’m really excited about that.”
