Alex Pereira has pledged to make some changes after losing the UFC light heavyweight championship to Magomed Ankalaev in Saturday’s UFC 313 main event in Las Vegas.

The Russian challenger scored a narrow decision win after five-rounds of action in which ‘Poatan’ struggled to assert his authority on the feet amid a consistent takedown threat from Ankalaev, despite him being unsuccessful on all 12 attempts to take Pereira to the canvas.

And after suffering what was just the second loss of his UFC career, Pereira said in comments posted to social media after the fight that he intends to make some changes to his toolbox ahead of what he sees as an inevitable rematch with the newly-crowned champion.

“That’s it everyone. Some marks [on my face] but I’m good,” Pereira announced in Portuguese in a video posted to Instagram.

“Gonna rest a bit. I’ll be back like I’ve always done. This has already happened sometimes but I’m good. I’m grateful for all your support, for all your love, always supporting me.

“I’m receiving so many messages of great encouragement. I’m here with my people, my family, my team.

“Gonna make some adjustments for the rematch and I’ll be back much better. You can count on it. All good everyone, never give up on your dreams. Chama.”

The defeat brings to an end Pereira’s five-fight win streak in the Octagon, with the past four of those being finished by the Brazilian inside the distance.

Ankalaev, meanwhile, is now unbeaten in his past 14 contests dating back to his sole career loss to Paul Craig in March 2018.
