Newly re-established as the UFC’s light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira says that he remains intent on proving himself at heavyweight — and that this would ideally come against Jon Jones during next year’s historic fight card on the grounds of the White House.

Pereira became a two-time 205-pound champion late on Saturday night, defeating Magomed Ankalaev by first-round TKO at UFC 320 in Las Vegas to avenge his title loss to the Russian fighter earlier this year, adding a second title in the weight class to the middleweight championship he initially claimed after transitioning to mixed martial arts from kickboxing several years ago.

This time around, new challengers await Pereira — including the streaking Carlos Ulberg and former champion Jiri Prochazka, owner of two defeats to Pereira already but who re-established his credentials with a stunning third-round TKO of Khalil Rountree Jr this past weekend.

But according to the Brazilian, there is one other name that tempts him: the recently retired Jon Jones.

“All I want is a superfight,” Pereira told reporters, including The Mac Life, post-fight after translation. “I want to fight at heavyweight.”

Pereira has noted his interest in competing at heavyweight in the past, potentially paving the way for him to have a shot at becoming the first three-division champion in UFC history.

“With all due respect, with all the respect I have for the situation,” Pereira added, “I was going to ask for Jon Jones at the White House, but with everything that happened, it’s not the right time to talk about it.” Jones’ older brother, the former NFL player Arthur Jones, sadly passed away in recent days.

That said, Pereira made clear what his current ambition is. “I want a superfight. It would be at the White House against Jon Jones. That’s a superfight.”

The UFC event at the White House, which is to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, is expected to take place in June of next year.
