Alexander Volkanovski is hitting the gas.
The now two-time UFC featherweight champion has said that he intends to be busy for the remainder of 2025, in spite of forthcoming medical tests to determine the extent of a hand injury sustained early in his title-winning performance against Diego Lopes at last weekend’s UFC 314 in Miami, Florida.
But at 36, the Australian 145-pound great is aware that the clock is ticking on his fight career — and as such, says he wants to keep his current momentum.
“I mentioned about being very active, I still want to be active. Just got to get a few things looked at, obviously a few bumps and bruises, see how that goes, talk to the UFC, and we’ll make it happen,” Volk told TMZ Sports, as noted by MMA Fighting.
“I mentioned about being very active, I still want to be active,” he added. “Just got to get a few things looked at, obviously a few bumps and bruises, see how that goes, talk to the UFC, and we’ll make it happen. I’m definitely fighting again this year, but the question is, am I doing two more?”
Two more fights in 2025 would present hypothetical opportunities for a handful of fighters near the top of the 145-pound ladder, with the likes of Movsar Evloev, Jean Silva and Yair Rodriguez currently chasing the belt.
Evloev, who is undefeated in his career, would appear at the moment to be at the head of the queue — though Rodriguez said last weekend following his victory against Patricio Pitbull that he had been assured of a forthcoming title opportunity by the UFC matchmaking team.
“I think Movsar was the name I kept mentioning, I’ve just got to see if the UFC even want that. Right?” Volk said. “Does the UFC want that, do the people want that? I’m sure Movsar wants that, but I’ve just got to see what makes sense. But again, I’m going to be active enough where I can make sure whoever wants it, they probably both can get it done this year.”
