Tony Ferguson isn’t quite ready to hang up his 4oz gloves.

‘El Cucuy’, the former interim UFC lightweight champion, is without a win in professional mixed martial arts competition since 2019 and has lost each of his past eight bouts since — most recently an August 2024 submission loss to Michael Chiesa.

But while that fight appeared likely to be Ferguson’s last, it seems that the soon-to-be 41-year-old California native is planning on making one final run in 2025, at least according to a post that appeared on his personal Instagram page.

“Completely destroyed myself to reinvent it,” Ferguson wrote on the social media platform, alongside a video of some career highlights.

“As an artist, I aim to show something you’ve never seen before. Happy New Year crew. 2025 in my sights. Stay tuned and watch the magic unfold. New missions acknowledged. Fight news coming soon.”

It remains to be seen what shape this fight news would take, given that it is unlikely that he would be booked for a potential ninth successive loss in the UFC — but other options, such as grappling or bare-knuckle fight leagues remain a possibility.

Last year, soon after his loss to Chiesa, Ferguson outlined his belief that he was “too old” to retire.

“I’m too old to retire. I’m 40 years old. I’m halfway to 80, I’ve been competing since I was five years old in multiple sports,” he said.

“I wrestled in college, I’ve done all the other stuff, and you know what? It’s not like I don’t know anything else. I do. I’m still able to compete. When somebody is able to run or sprint faster than me then maybe I will start to consider it.

“But what I really need is to find that coaching, that discipline around other people, being uncomfortable in practice so that way you’re not miserable in the fight… That’s where we’re at right now.”
