Johny Hendricks likes fighting in Canada, and he likes fighting at middleweight.
After facing Hector Lombard in his debut at 185-pounds after a string of issues making the welterweight limit in his last few appearances, Hendricks looked a man renewed, and came away with a unanimous judges decision. And according to the Texan, who came into this fight on a three fight losing streak, middleweight is where you’ll find him from now on.
“Man it feels awesome,” Hendricks said post-fight. “Hector Lombard is such a dangerous opponent, even though you wanna attack him, you really can’t. Even in the third round I felt his power. Thank God for the UFC, thank God for giving me this win. thank you to the Canadian fans, I always come here and win in front of you. I am so thankful for Canada.
“The sky’s the limit [at 185]. I couldn’t do that in the last weight class. I have energy, I have energy, I can’t wait to see what I have for me in the future.”
While it was a positive night for the former welterweight champion, it was a missed opportunity for Lombard, who himself now slips to three straight defeats.
