Sean Strickland wants a stand-up war when he battles Dricus du Plessis in Sydney, Australia next month.
Strickland will seek to regain the middleweight championship in the UFC 312 on February 9 in a rematch of their first meeting almost exactly a year ago which the South African won by split decision — and this time around, he wants a blood n’ guts five rounds to determine the rightful owner of the 185-pound title.
“Listen Dutchman, I’m going to need you to be a f****** man and I’m going to need you to stand up, not go to your knees and we’re going to need to f***** strike like men,” Strickland said via Full Violence, as noted by Bloody Elbow.
“I know that you like to wrestle, and you like to f***** choke people out and do some g** s*** dude… But I’ll make a pact with you; you make a pact with me, that we stand up like f****** men and we settle this s*** like men.”
Strickland’s comments mirror several he made in advance of their first fight last year — which, while back-and-forth and competitive didn’t quite live up to the billing in which Strickland said he was prepared to “die” in the cage to achieve his goal.
“I ain’t got no predictions,” Du Plessis said in response to Strickland at the time. “Like they say, be careful what you wish for. He asked for death. Your wish has been granted, my friend.”
