Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and Jorge Masvidal are set to meet at UFC 217, the promotion’s return to Madison Square Garden.
It puts and end to speculation that the duo — considered two of the best strikers in the welterweight division — would finally face each other. The news was first hinted at by Masvidal himself, who took to Twitter to promise violence, before MMAFighting went on to confirm the story.
The violence you all have asked for is finally going down nov 4th …. #wonderbread #hoslapseason #makenycgreatagain

It marks the return of Thompson after two five round bouts with 170-pound champion Tyron Woodley, one a draw and one a slim defeat. For Masvidal, it’s his comeback following a loss to recent number one contender Demian Maia, which broke a three fight win streak.
UFC 217 is to be headlined by UFC middleweight champion Micheal Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre, and will also feature the postponed title bout between UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt and The Ultimate Fighter rival T.J. Dillashaw.
