Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson says he has been the recipient of death threats following a viral incident last weekend in which his son Raja appeared to violently assault a professional wrestler during a sports entertainment event.

Jackson, 47, said told the TMZ news outlet during a brief interview that his life has been threatened by figures online after the release of footage which showed Raja entering the ring, slamming a wrestler to the canvas before gaining mount position and delivering around twenty unanswered punches to the man’s head.

The wrestler in question, Stuart Smith, who wrestles under the moniker Syko Stu, was taken to hospital soon afterwards, with his injuries described as serious but stable. Raja, 25, is a mixed martial arts fighter but has yet to gain much recognition from major organisations.

“You know, I wish I could say something,” ‘Rampage’ told TMZ, noting that his hands are tied as to how much information he can impart.

“All I can say is a lot of racist people giving me death threats and stuff like that, like I’m a puppet master, calling me a bad father. It’s uncalled for. Anything I say gets twisted anyway.”

In the aftermath, Jackson issued a statement on social media in which he criticised the actions of his son and said that he hopes Smith makes a full recovery. He also suggested that the incident was part of a ‘work’ which went wrong in the ring, and that his son had recently received a concussion which he believes may have contributed to the incident.

It also came after a backstage incident between Raja and Smith in which Smith had crushed a can against Jackson’s head. Subsequent footage appeared to show Smith apologising for the incident.

It was reported that Smith suffered convulsions after the attack, which also resulted in blood loss and several teeth being knocked out.
