Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill isn’t too down following his UFC 311 loss to Jiri Prochazka in California last weekend.
Hill succumbed to the Czech in the third round, losing by TKO after being dropped moments before by a clubbing right hand from Prochazka. The defeat — Hill’s second in succession — will consign him a few rungs down the ladder of challengers at 205-pounds as the division awaits its next title fight between champion Alex Pereira and top contender Magomed Ankalaev.
But despite the disappointment, the American didn’t make any excuses in his post-fight comments.
“First of congratulations to [Jiri Prochazka],” Hill wrote in a post published to Instagram. “You made great adjustments and gave me a hell of a fight!!! I want to thank everybody that reached out with love and support I truly appreciate you all!!!
“My fire has never burned hotter or brighter for my future and growth!! Fighting against the elite of the elite is an honour and blessing that I don’t take for granted and yes it comes with some hard lessons but this is my journey and I’m going to set the course back right!!!
“Negative and hate are from those that know where they stand beneath you and want to bring you down to their level!! My head is high my heart is full and I can’t wait for my time to shine again Sweet Dreams Nation we move forward and onward!!!”
The post also included a video clip of Hill and Prochazka having a drink together in the hours after the fight.
Hill’s loss follows his first-round knockout defeat to Alex Pereira in the UFC 300 main event this past April. He now drops to fourth position in the official 205-pound rankings behind Ankalaev, Prochazka and Poland’s Jan Blachowicz.
