Leon Edwards has posted his first message on social media since being knocked out by Carlos Prates at UFC 322, marking his first public statement following the stoppage loss at Madison Square Garden on November 15.

The former UFC welterweight champion suffered the first knockout defeat of his professional career in the bout, extending his winless run to three consecutive fights inside the Octagon.

The short message, posted to his Instagram account on Thursday afternoon, marked Edwards’ initial response after a period of silence following a difficult stretch that began with his loss of the welterweight title at UFC 304 in the summer of 2024.

“Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift,” the message, accompanied by an image of Edwards appearing to shout towards the camera, reads.

In the aftermath of the defeat to Brazilian striker Prates, some observers suggested that Edwards, 34, should consider retirement given the recent downturn in results, though no definitive plans about his future were outlined in the post.

It remains unclear what will be next for Edwards, but it would not be surprising if an extended period away from competition follows as he reassesses his position in the division.

Before his recent losses, Edwards compiled the second-longest unbeaten streak in welterweight history at 13 fights, and while he remains ranked in the top 10, his path back to a title shot appears distant with several contenders now ahead of him in the queue.
