Kevin Lee is supposed to main event UFC Brasilia against Charles Oliveira on Saturday night.
Unfortunately, as the coronavirus epidemic continues to spread and worsen, live sporting events across the globe have been plunged into disarray as companies and corporations work out how best to deal with managing the safety of fans.
Yesterday, the status of UFC Brasilia was left uncertain after the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha, signed into decree that no gatherings of over a hundred people could take place in the region.
Because of that ruling, today, the UFC cancelled their usual media day, once again raising questions over what will happen on Saturday night. It’s been reported by Combate that the event will continue behind closed doors with no audience in attendance, although the UFC are yet to confirm such news.
For Lee, he’d rather the UFC went for a closed-door policy rather than a total postponement.
Taking to his social media on Thursday, Lee made a pitch to the promotion, asking them to let the fighters put on a show for those watching on television at home.
@UFC if I cut this weight I’m fighting somebody, event or not #UFCBrasilia

I’m good with fighting in an empty arena. Let’s not panic too crazy, let us fight, entertain the people stuck at home. #UFCBrasilia
