Kelvin Gastelum has released a statement addressing his first round defeat to Jack Hermansson at UFC Fight Island 2.

Gastelum got caught in a kneebar early on in proceedings, which earned Hermansson a stunningly quick finish. While Hermansson was always a contender to win the contest, few had predicted it ending in the fashion it did, or as early as it did.

Shortly after the contest, Gastelum took to his social media to discuss the defeat, and pledge to return from what is now a three-fight losing streak.

“Truly embarrassed guys. I’m sorry. My team, my family @ufc @danawhite @Mickmaynard2,” Gastelum wrote. “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so u can know who u are, what u can rise from, how u can still come out of it.”
