Islam Makhachev has said he is ready to return to action at any time, stating the delay in his next fight lies with the UFC rather than his own availability.

The reigning welterweight champion issued a brief response on social media after Ian Machado Garry questioned shifting timelines around his comeback, suggesting inconsistencies between injury updates and potential fight dates. Makhachev wrote, “Don’t worry about my injuries. I’m ready at any time. I’m waiting for the contract.”

Garry had earlier expressed frustration as he seeks a first UFC title opportunity, pointing to comments from UFC president Dana White about a possible August return and contrasting them with Makhachev’s own hints at a July fight. “We’re all waiting on you princess,” said Garry, according to social media.

The situation has developed amid uncertainty surrounding Makhachev’s health. In March, White said the champion had “some hand issues” but did not provide a clear timeline for recovery, later indicating August as a more realistic return window while dismissing speculation about July.

What comes next remains unclear, with the UFC’s welterweight title picture still open. Several contenders are in contention for a shot, including Michael Morales and Kamaru Usman, alongside Garry, suggesting no confirmed challenger has yet been selected.

Makhachev, a former lightweight champion, captured the 170-pound title by defeating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 in November 2025 after multiple successful defenses of his previous belt, and remains one of the promotion’s top-ranked pound-for-pound fighters.
