In less than two weeks’ time Jan Blachowicz has promised to do what no man has done in mixed martial arts competition to date: defeat Israel Adesanya.

The Polish slugger, the first man not named Jon or Daniel to hold UFC light heavyweight gold in the best part of a decade, has promised that he will hand Adesanya his first MMA defeat (and even says a left high kick will be the fight-ending shot) and sent the middleweight champion packing back down to the division from which he came.

A lofty prediction no doubt but Blachowicz has made a habit of playing spoiler in recent fights, first when he knocked out a supremely confident Luke Rockhold and more recently when he vanquished Dominck Reyes — the man who came so close to beating Jon Jones — to claim the then-vacant UFC light heavyweight title.
