Max Holloway’s first UFC featherweight title defence will come against Frankie Edgar.

The two will headline UFC 218 on December 2 in Detroit. The news was first reported by Brett Okamoto.

The outing will mark the first appearance by Holloway as champion since defeating featherweight great Jose Aldo in June earlier this year. For Edgar, the opportunity comes on the back of two back to back wins, most recently against Yair Rodriguez in May.

It marks Edgar’s third attempt at 145-pound gold (once against Aldo in 2013, and another for an interim title in 2016). Should he win, Edgar would become the fourth fighter in UFC history to have owned two titles in two divisions.

So far, the only other bout announced for the card is a heavyweight clash between Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou.
