Of the list of professional MMA fighters that people wouldn’t like to get hit by, Derrick Lewis must be somewhere close to the top.
Of his 22 professional wins, he has had his hand raised for a knockout victory in 18 of them — a stat which is a keen signifier of the power which exists in his hands. Some people, though, need to feel it to believe it.
This was the case recently when, after a boxer in Lewis’ gym suggested that mixed martial artists cannot hang with experienced boxers in the ring and ‘The Black Beast’ was more than accommodating in attempting to change his opinion. Check out the footage below, along with Ariel Helwani’s insight on the matter when he contacted Lewis for clarity.

Asked Derrick about this.
He said a boxer at his gym was talking “a lot” of smack about boxers vs MMA fighters. This happened yesterday. Lasted 1 minute, he said. https://t.co/K7R49cq2iF

Lewis will be looking for a similar result when he steps into the cage on February 8 against Ilir Latifi in the Swede’s maiden bout at heavyweight in the UFC.
