Dana White says if Anderson Silva is considering retirement he “should probably do it”

Dana White says Anderson Silva won’t get the interim title shot he is asking for.

Dana White doesn’t appear to willing to cave to Anderson Silva’s demands.

In a wide-ranging interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour last Monday, the longtime UFC middleweight champion aired his considerable grievances at the UFC after his proposed bout with Kelvin Gastelum which was due to take place next month at UFC 212 fell apart. Gastelum was pulled from the bout for a USADA violation for marijuana, leaving Silva without an opponent for the event in his native country.

Silva, aggrieved at the lack of action in finding an opponent, called for an interim title bout with #1 contender Yoel Romero — though Dana White certainly isn’t fond of that proposal.

Speaking to TMZ, White said that the possibility of an interim title bout isn’t on the table.

“Every time, for the last however many years, dealing with Anderson it’s always interesting”, the UFC president said. “You know obviously he wants an interim title, obviously we’re not going to do an interim title. He’s definitely coming out publicly and you know my philosophy on that, if you ever say the ‘R’ word, you should probably do it anyway. If you’re considering retirement, you should probably do it.

“We will not do an interim title. No, it won’t happen. Bisping’s ready, willing and able to fight the actual No. 1 contender, who’s Yoel Romero. I mean Anderson Silva’s ranked No. 7 right now. If he was willing to take the Romero fight for June because he was supposed to fight Kelvin Gastelum. Anderson’s mad. I didn’t pull Kelvin Gastelum out. Kelvin Gastelum smoked weed and now he got busted and we’ve done everything we could to make another fight for Anderson. So it’s nothing we did.”
