It’s been a long time coming but Tom Aspinall finally has his first fight booked as the UFC’s undisputed heavyweight champion.
It was confirmed by UFC boss Dana White on Tuesday that Aspinall will defend his title against the former interim and two-time undisputed champion Ciryl Gane in the UFC 321 main event, which will come to you from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on October 25.
The fight represents Aspinall’s first since he was upgraded to the division’s champion following the retirement of Jon Jones, and his first bout in the cage since he defended his interim championship against Curtis Blaydes in the UK last year.
Gane’s two career defeats both came in title bouts, first against Francis Ngannou and then against Jon Jones. He was recently confirmed as the division’s top contender following wins over Serghei Spivac and Alexander Volkov, the latter of which came via controversial split decision.
Elsewhere, it was also confirmed that 205-pound champion Magomed Ankalaev will defend his championship in a rematch against the man he won it from, Alex Pereira, in the UFC 320 main event in Las Vegas on October 4.
On that same card, bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili will seek to retain his 135-pound belt against the challenger Cory Sandhagen.
UFC 320 will also feature a light heavyweight matchup between Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree.
