Tyson Fury has announced that his next fight will take place in Dublin on August 1 as the former heavyweight world champion prepares for a proposed clash with Anthony Joshua later this year.
Fury revealed the date in a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, showing the 36-year-old back in training in Thailand. The bout is expected to serve as a warm-up contest before a potential heavyweight meeting with Joshua, who is scheduled to face Albanian fighter Kristian Prenga in Riyadh on July 25.
The two-time world champion posted the message “let’s go August 1, Dublin, Ireland” alongside the training footage on Instagram. The opponent for Fury’s Dublin fight has not yet been confirmed.
The August 1 card in Dublin is already set to feature hometown boxer Pierce O’Leary against Mark Chamberlain, with Fury potentially topping the bill as the main event. Fury’s promoter Frank Warren had previously indicated that an announcement regarding Fury’s next opponent was expected this week.
Fury is returning to action following a unanimous points victory over Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 11. Makhmudov went the distance, but Fury won comfortably on the scorecards, with judges scoring the bout 120-108 twice and 119-109.
