Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez says he would be open to a rematch with Terence Crawford, but only if negotiations begin with a nine-figure purse, while also expressing his desire to avenge one of the few defeats of his career.

Speaking during a recent interview with CBS Mornings, Canelo was asked whether a $75 million payday for each fighter would be enough to tempt Crawford out of retirement. The Mexican star dismissed that figure before outlining the financial terms he would require and explaining why he would welcome a second meeting.

“They need a little bit more for me,” he said. “We can start with that and negotiate. But yes, why not? As fighters, we always want revenge. He is a great fighter. I always believe in my abilities. Things happen for a reason. Looking back, my performance in rematches is always solid. I correct mistakes once I know what went wrong. If the opportunity arrives, it will be amazing.”

Alvarez also reflected on the reasons behind the defeat, saying the outcome was not the result of poor preparation but a lack of focus once the fight began. “You cannot control the results,” said Canelo. “Even when preparation is perfect, things fall short. I forgot the basics in that fight. The training camp went well, but the focus was not there in the ring. Moving forward, the mental aspect has to match the physical side.”

A second fight remains uncertain following Crawford’s retirement announcement, although Alvarez said he does not believe their first meeting reflected his best performance. Any negotiations would also depend on Crawford deciding to return to the ring and both sides reaching agreement on financial terms.

Alvarez’s comments represent his clearest explanation of the defeat, with the former undisputed super middleweight champion attributing the loss to his mindset rather than physical issues. He maintained that his training camp had gone according to plan but said he abandoned the fundamentals that had defined his career once the fight was underway.
