It seems as though Katie Taylor’s trilogy bout with Chantelle Cameron will have to wait.
Bray woman Taylor had been strongly linked to a third showdown in Dublin with Cameron in May — around a year after the English fighter became the first person to defeat Taylor in her professional career. Taylor would gain a measure of revenge in November, teeing up a high profile third fight between the two.
However, plans to hold the fight inside the home of Irish sport, Croke Park, have so far fallen by the wayside — and it now seems that Taylor’s old foe Amanda Serrano is likely next on her ledger.
According to numerous media reports, Taylor and Serrano are being lined up to fight each other in the Las Vegas Sphere in a bout that could take place as early as June. A formal announcement from Taylor’s promoter, Matchroom Boxing, could come this week, reports say.
“There is a good chance [Taylor] could fight Serrano next,” Hearn previously said. “Absolutely, the Serrano rematch is an option for the next fight. It would be a huge fight.”
Puerto Rican native Serrano came out on the wrong end of a split decision loss to Taylor in what is heralded as the biggest woman’s boxing match of all time back in April 2022. Since then, Serrano has scored four successive wins, all by unanimous decision, to improve her record to 46-2-1.
It is thought that Serrano is keen to arrange a swift return to the ring after a scheduled bout with Nina Meinke fell apart on short notice due to injury involving a hair product that affected her vision.
“I think it is the fight that makes sense for Katie Taylor,” Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn added. “A Stateside fight is definitely appealing after the success of their fight at Madison Square Garden. Katie wants the biggest fights.”
