Promoter Eddie Hearn says former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is expected to resume his boxing career after surviving a fatal car accident that killed two members of his team.

Anthony Joshua’s long-time promoter Eddie Hearn said the British heavyweight is likely to return to the ring in due course, even as Joshua continues to recover from the emotional and physical aftermath of a December car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of trainer Latif Ayodele and strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami.

The crash on December 29 left Joshua with non-life-threatening injuries and triggered widespread speculation about his future in the sport as fans and analysts questioned whether he would fight again. Hearn, speaking from Las Vegas while promoting other boxing events, offered an update on the 36-year-old’s status.

“There is hardly any boxing talk at the moment,” said Hearn, according to Ring Magazine. “Physically and emotionally, he’s recovering, and boxing will be a conversation probably in the coming months, maybe, rather than weeks.”

Hearn added that Joshua’s competitive nature and love for the sport remain intact, but that any decision about his future will come from the fighter himself. “I feel like he will return to the sport. When the time is ready, if that time even comes again, it will come from Anthony Joshua,” said Hearn.

Looking ahead, Hearn and Joshua’s team have not outlined a specific timeline for a comeback, and discussions about potential opponents or dates have been muted as focus remains on recovery and healing. Boxing insiders say meaningful talk of a return is likely to emerge only once Joshua formally signals his readiness.

Joshua, a former two-time unified world heavyweight champion, had just returned to winning form with a knockout of Jake Paul on December 19 before the accident. He had been widely speculated as a possible opponent for Tyson Fury this year after the ‘Gypsy King’ recently announced an end to his hiatus from the sport.
