Eddie Hearn has pushed back at criticism linked to Dana White’s planned move into boxing, declaring himself “the greatest boxing promoter that’s ever lived” as debate grows around the sport’s future.
The Matchroom Boxing chairman was responding to comments surrounding White’s Zuffa Boxing project, which is expected holds more events in 2026 and has intensified discussion about competition between established boxing promoters and the UFC president.
“You’ll never hear me talking disrespectfully about Dana, being personal about Dana,” said Hearn, according to Bloody Elbow, as he addressed the growing rivalry between the two figures in combat sports.
Hearn continued by acknowledging the strength of White’s business backing, saying, “It’s a fair game. They’re an amazing company. You’ve got Mark Shapiro, Ari, Dana, Nick Khan — these are geniuses.” He added, “It turns me on. It’s what I want. I’ve got to prove that I’m the best. I believe I’m the best.”
Expanding on his confidence, Hearn said, “I believe I’m the greatest boxing promoter that’s ever lived. And it might be deluded, but my track record suggests I might be right.” He also welcomed the challenge ahead, stating, “I need heavy artillery up against me. I don’t need a geezer with a f*cking water pistol. I want the big f*cking tanks coming at me, and that’s what’s coming.”
White’s entry into boxing is expected to bring further scrutiny and competitive tension as Zuffa Boxing prepares for its first events, potentially reshaping promotional dynamics within the sport.
Hearn, who has overseen numerous world title fights and major international events through Matchroom, remains one of boxing’s most prominent promoters as the landscape continues to evolve.
