Mike Tyson has landed the first blow ahead of his boxing return in Texas on Friday night.
The 58-year-old former world heavyweight champion will make his first walk to the ring in 19 years inside the AT&T Stadium in Arlington where he will take on the YouTuber turned professional boxer Jake Paul in a bout that has commanded significant media attention in recent weeks — much of which was centered on the possible ethical concerns of placing the long-retired Tyson into the ring with a man 30 years his junior.
Tyson, though, has cut a motivated figure in the build-up — and even more so as the clock inches ever nearer to fight time.
He was noticeably stoic in the pre-fight press conference on Wednesday, refusing to be drawn into Paul’s usual pre-fight pageantry but at the official weigh-in late on Thursday, Tyson showed a little of that nastiness which characterised his rise to the top of the sport all those years ago.
