Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman’s rematch is apparently on the rocks.
The pair had seemed on a collision course after champion Usman called for a second bout with his rival last weekend after defending his world championship against Gilbert Burns. According to him, Usman said Masvidal was given an unfair amount of praise for their first encounter back last July, and has been unreasonably feisty despite losing a one-sided affair on Fight Island.
“He knows he can’t beat me,” Usman said, speaking with ESPN. “There are certain guys you just know, ‘I can’t beat that dude.’ He just doesn’t have the skills to beat me. Now, can a freak accident happen on any given day? Absolutely. But 10 times out of 10, I beat him badly, which is why I looked at him. It’s my show. I pick who I fight.
“At this point, I just didn’t like all the circumstances I had to deal with going into [the first fight with Masvidal], and it left a sour taste in my mouth. The shit they’ve talked has left a sour taste in my mouth. I need to put him in the ground for good.”
Usman also said he was “feeling generous” in a likely reference to coaching the upcoming reboot of The Ultimate Fighter against Masvidal. Today, the champion announced that generosity has already expired.

It didn’t take long for Masvidal to respond, jumping online to fire back: “That’s what I thought. Full camp he says nope! Got cold feet when you heard we said yes #freebritney”
