One criticism of Curtis Blaydes so far in his mixed martial arts career has been his near sole wrestling focus in fights.

Tonight in Raleigh, North Carolina, the heavyweight went some way to putting those remarks to bed, as he stopped former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos with heavy punches on the feet.

In round one, Blaydes was unable to find the takedown, with Dos Santos doing a great job of stopping the takedowns quickly. Once that option was taken away, Blaydes was left to work on the feet, and showed crisp punches that clearly worried Dos Santos with every one that landed.

Then, in round two, Blaydes seemed content to stay standing, landing a huge right that immediately sent Dos Santos reeling backwards. A few more punches, and the fight was called to an end.

“I want that title shot. You know I’m next,” Blaydes said, speaking post-fight inside the Octagon. “I showed you I got the wrestling, I showed you I got the hands, I don’t know what else I got to do.”
