Corey Anderson was a fired up man last week in New York, and that was never more clear than moments after he defeated Johnny Walker.

Anderson knocked Walker out in the first round, and immediately got in his opponents face afterwards, bellowing at Walker and those at cageside, and pushed the referee. Anderson went on to mock Walker’s trademark goofy faces and dances as the referee raised his hand, earning boos from the Madison Square Garden crowd.

Because of those actions, the New York State Athletic Commission has fined Anderson $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct, per MMAFighting.com.

Afterwards, Anderson said he had felt disrespected by Walker and the UFC, after he suspected the promotion had been setting Walker up as a title contender off his name. While he continued to be annoyed during his post fight media scrum, Anderson did take to his social media shortly afterwards to apologise for his conduct.

“I want to say I apologize to [Johnny Walker], fans, friends, family, and my past athletes for the way I behaved,” Anderson wrote. “That was no way shape or form who I am as a person or a professional. I was taught to be a good sport. And that was not that. Emotions got the best of me.”

Anderson wasn’t the only fighter to leave New York with a fine, as Kelvin Gastelum also received a $1,000 punishment for leaning on his coach during the UFC 244 official weigh-ins.
